San Francisco and the Bay Area are known for their historic landmarks and eclectic architecture, from the Golden Gate Bridge to the steep-hilled neighborhoods that give the city its character. Freas Plastering Company, headquartered in Concord, California, has played a significant role in shaping that architectural identity across the region.
Don Freas launched his union institutional and commercial plastering company in 1990. “It was a dream of mine that came together in 1990,” says Don Freas, president. His ambition to run his own operation dates back to the early 1980s. Freas began his plastering career in 1969, completing a four-year union apprenticeship in San Francisco. “Before I began my company, I worked primarily downtown San Francisco for 20 years for several major union plastering and drywall contractors,” he says. During those years he also supervised projects throughout the Greater Bay Area, including Alameda, San Jose, and Contra Costa Counties. “I got into different management roles for larger companies, and I did that up until I started my own business,” he explains.
The company handles spray-on fireproofing and institutional plastering alongside its core lath-and-plaster work, serving commercial and public-works projects across the Bay Area. According to HomeAdvisor, commercial plastering contractors with union credentials and multi-decade track records are among the most sought-after subcontractors for large institutional builds. Freas’ experience on numerous commercial projects, combined with his leadership background, gave him the foundation and confidence to build a company that continues to define quality craftsmanship in the Bay Area.
